This guy was initially shown as one of the three Death Eagles, part number 410612. In the 1991 catalogue he’s shown as Bolter 1, part number 070145/14.




He can be seen in White Dwarf 112:

I have had those three fellows for ages and just hadn’t got to painting them – partially because I was dithering between doing them in the magenta/white or in blue to go with all the other Marines. I decided to go with blue, with a slight nod to the original shown scheme with the chequering on the knee.
It’s interesting how the Mk7 “Armourum Imperator” armour look is similar to but distinct from Jes Goodwin’s later MK7 sculpts.
Joined the painting log 10th June 2026. Took me about four hours this time around:





Paints used:
- Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
- Blue: Scale75 Art Cobalt Blue, shaded by mixing in Scale75’s Art Orange Ink, highlighted by mixing in Kimera’s Velvet Ink White
- Red: Kimera’s The White followed by The Red, shaded by mixing in Kimera’s Phthalo Green, highlighted by mixing in Cold Yellow
- Black: Kimera’s Velvet Ink Black, grey achieved by mixing in Velvet Ink White, highlighted with Velvet Ink White
- Lenses: Kimera’s Phthalo Green, mixed with Velvet Ink Black for shading, highlighted by mixing in Cold Yellow
- Gold: Scale75 Necro Gold, highlighted with Dwarven Gold (I think, or Elven Gold), shaded with Scale75 Chestnut Ink, highlights done again with the same gold colours
- Base: Kimera’s Red Oxide, then Reddish Brown pigment, then Natural Soil, rim Vallejo Model Color Black Grey
