  • Brother Fielding

    Brother Fielding

At first this chap went by Brother Fielding, and in the 1991 catalogue he’s shown as Shuriken Catapult 070106/18. He appears in the Citadel Combat Cards as Marine Trooper Brother Janner. Apparently that’s a British nickname for people from Plymouth.

1988 on the back of the tab. Painted in May 2023:

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Cobalt Blue, tinted with The White, shaded with Carbon Black
    • Lenses: Cobalt Bluegreen mixed with Cold Yellow and The White
    • Base: PVA glue + some small Noch rocks, then around that Armageddon Dust. All that undercoated with Vallejo Mecha Black, then painted with Scale75 Artist Red Ochre, drybrushed with a mix of that and Golden Flesh, then a further drybrush of that and Kimera The White. Then Natural Soil pigment was added, and some tufts from Vallejo and a little bit of undergrowth from Noch.
    • Bone: Honey Moon Yellow, tinted with The White, shaded with watered down Oxide Brown Medium
    • Red: The Red, highlighted with Cold Yellow, shaded with Carbon Black
    • Rim: Vallejo Model Colour Black Grey
  • Brother Byrne

    Brother Byrne

This metal Rogue Trader-era Warhammer 40K Space Marine went by Brother Byrne. I can’t find a specific sculpting credit for him, unfortunately, but he does have 1988 on the tab.

  • Sergeant Payne

    Sergeant Payne

This metal Space Marine was from the Rogue Trader era (first edition of Warhammer 40K), and was first seen in the April 1988 issue of White Dwarf under the name “Sergeant Payne”.

He’s a 1988 sculpt by either Mark Copplestone or Aly Morrison.

  • Brother McCarthy

    Brother McCarthy

This guy went by Brother McCarthy at first and in the 1991 catalogue he’s shown as Bolter and Face Mask, part number 070106/11.

  • Brother Leach

    Brother Leach

This guy was first seen as Brother Leach, and shown in later catalogues as Plasma Gun 2 with part number 070121/50. He has a 1988 mark on his tab.

Here he is in the April 1988 RT3 flyer:

    The mini itself:

  • Brother Martins

    Brother Martins

This guy appears as Brother Martins in the early catalogues and flyers and later as Hand Flamer and Heavy Plasma, part number 070121/51.

  • Brother Craven

    Brother Craven

This Rogue Trader-era Space Marine was shown in the April 1988 issue of White Dwarf, and went by the moniker Brother Craven. He was sculpted by either Mark Copplestone or Aly Morrison.

As you can see, his sword is mostly missing!

He can be found in White Dwarf #117, painted by Richard Kernick:

  • Brother Sawyer

    Brother Sawyer

This guy was Brother Sawyer aka Power Glove and Hand Flamer 070119/20.

    1987 on the tab.

  • Brother Matthews

    Brother Matthews

This metal Rogue Trader Space Marine went by Brother Matthews in the early catalogues. He’s often listed as a Librarian, which makes sense given his appearance!

  • Brother Morris

    Brother Morris

This Space Marine from the original Rogue Trader edition of Warhammer 40K went by Brother Morris in the early flyers, and in later catalogues as Space Marine with Multi Melta and Bolt Pistol 070121/47.

Looks like 1988 on the tab. I haven’t got photos of my first attempt at painting him but if I find them the recipe was:

    • Undercoat: Vallejo Mecha Black
    • Blue: Scale75 Art Blue, shaded with that mixed with Art Black, highlighted with that and Pro Acryl Titanium White
    • Red: Pro Acryl Bold Pyrrole Red, shaded with that mixed with Scale75 Art Burgundy Wine Red, further shaded with Art Black, highlighted with BPR mixed with Scale75 Art Intense Yellow. Bolt pistol was Bold Pyrrole Red, shaded with Targor Rageshade, highlighted with the same.
    • Green: Spring Green, shaded with Art Black, highlighted with Primary Yellow and then Neon Yellow, then Neon Yellow + Titanium White, and Titanium White for the little reflection
    • Base: Base coat of Burgundy Wine Red, then the rocks were done in Off White, then washed with Garaghak’s Sewer. Then pigments of Natural Soil, then Sand, then Gypsum for the rocks. Rim of Vallejo Black Grey
    • Bone: Off White, washed with watered down Garaghak’s Sewer, brought up again with Off White and Pro Acryl Titanium White, washed again with Garaghak’s Sewer.
    • Silver: Base coat of Art Black, then a drybrush of Black Metal, then drybrush of Thrash Metal, then a drybrush of Speed Metal, then a drybrush of White Alchemy. Then a wash of Nuln Oil Gloss and a little bit of Seraphim Sepia.
